This is an incomplete list of video games strongly featuring zombies. These games feature creatures inspired by the archetypal flesh-eating zombies seen in horror films, B-movies and literature; such as in the films of George A. Romero. Other variants, such as the faster running zombies, are also included.[1][2] Particular zombie rationale and depictions vary with the source.

Zombies are common or generic enemies in video games. The ZX Spectrum computer game Zombie Zombie, released in Europe in 1984, is considered to be the first video game focused on zombies.[1][3] Zombie games became more prevalent after the release of the survival horror game Resident Evil in 1996.[1] This release, coupled with the 1996 light gun shooter The House of the Dead, gave rise to "an international craze" for zombies, in turn impacting zombie films.[4] Resident Evil sold 2.75 million copies within the United States alone,[4] and its success resulted in it becoming a major horror franchise encompassing video games, novelizations, and films.[1] The House of the Dead is also credited with introducing fast running zombies, distinct from Romero's classic slow zombies.[5]

Its time to maim and murder your way to the top of an exiting new game show! I Kill Zombies see's you trapped inside a giant arena fending off the forces of the undead as one of three characters. Do you have what it takes to survive? Who kills zombies? I Kill Zombies!!!

Varying from survival horror settings where the environment is harsh and every bullet counts to brainless arcade beat them ups where you splash zombie brains using a bat or even a machete, up to pure survival sandbox where you have to manage resources and fight zombies at the same time, there is a lot to discover on the PlayStation 3 library for every type of Zombie hunter.

Dead Nation is an exciting top-down shooter that takes place in a zombie apocalyptic world. The game gives you the choice to choose between two characters male or female making your way through hoards of zombies on each level.

The game is fairly similar to the previous title of the series (Resident Evil 4) you take control of your character in a third-person view shooting and aiming is done in an over the shoulder view, a huge variety of weapons is at your service to make your way through hordes of zombies, also there is a possibility to upgrade your weapons along the course of the game. Despite the huge similarity to the previous title Resident Evil 5 brings co-op play to the series for the first time, online or split-screen there is a lot to enjoy here with a friend.

The House of the Dead: Overkill is a first-person rail shooter game, the game is a part of the famous House Of The Dead arcade series. It serves as a prequel to the first entry and the first title to be developed exclusively for home consoles. Meanwhile, previous console versions were simply arcade ports.

Deadhill itself is broken up into different zones. Initially, you start in the town centre and have to make your way to the police station to find the first survivor. Every time you want to transition to a new area, you have to accept and complete a request for a sentry guard that has blocked a new path. These requests require a wide range of tasks, such as killing a certain amount of zombies or collecting a number of items. Sometimes they will add a twist, like radiating zombies and killing them after they mutant into powerful zombie beasts. At first I enjoyed the tasks, but as the game continued these requirements began to become a hindrance, especially when I needed to go through three checkpoints to travel to my desired destination. As a result, quests ca suffer from that old feeling of familiarity. When combined with having to keep moving to the other side of the map to finish them, it basically becomes a game of constant backtracking that gets stale the longer you play. I found playing in smaller successions helps the experience more than trying to complete the game in one or two sessions.

Think we missed any of the best PS4 zombies out on our list? Be sure to let us know down below. One thing to remember: all of these zombie games for PS4 can also be played on PS5 thanks to the marvel of backwards compatibility.

However, if you just want to lay the smackdown on an absolutely wild amount of zombies at once all while wearing a silly hat (and nothing else), Dead Rising 4 is probably the purest bit of undead mayhem on this list.

A thing of visual beauty, Resident Evil 2 flexes the RE Engine at every possible opportunity while offering a tonne of replayability that most modern games could only dream of. The most remarkable thing about it, however, is that it ditches the tank controls and still makes zombies a horrifying threat.

So I settled myself in next to Jim Mummery, Creative Director of the game with doublesix, the developer of the game, grabbed a PlayStation 3 controller, and preceded to incinerate, mutilate, smash, and altogether destroy thousands of zombies.

To mix things up, there are Challenges, a Tutorial mode, and Multiplayer. Tutorial and Multiplayer explain themselves, but Challenges offers a little more to do. One mode asks you to kick a zombie head around then shoot for a massive explosion. Another challenge, Lawn of the Dead, asks you to kill zombies with the lawn mower, which is eternally satisfying, with giblets and loads of cartoonish gore.

3) Create a front runner where none exists! Pole vaulting zombies run fast until they vault over a nut, and the newspaper zombie runs fast after getting the paper destroyed by a nut. Just let them run a little bit down the lawn before sending a nut their way.

4) Just because you have nuts does not mean you have to use them. This is where "Nerves of Steel" comes into play. When there are a few zombies ambling down the lawn without a clear ricochet shot, wait a little bit to see if more of their friends will step out to play. They can always be killed once they cross the red line.

6) Reserve the exploding nuts. Try not to use those nuts unless a mob crosses the line, or there are not enough nuts or room to clear out a hard to kill zombie. Use the regular walnuts for the zombies that have not reached the red line.

7) Don't use exploding nuts to kill pole vaulting zombies directly. Pole vaulting zombies only jump obstacles in their own lane. A pole vaulting zombie who has not vaulted yet will safely jump over explosions or nuts in their own lane; so find a neighbor in the next lane and time the nut to hit when the pole vaulting zombie gets close to the neighbor.

There are so many elements of AZMD that are caught between two camps; cutesy or horrific, action or RPG, funny or not. In terms of graphics Doublesix have gone down the Burn Zombie Burn route of overly large character builds and zombies that could have come from Plants vs. Zombies. This is a reasonable choice, perhaps they planned to encourage younger gamers into the zombie genre? However, the amount of destruction and zombie death in the game means that this is still a mature title. A mature game with a juvenile color palette.

The second confusing element is whether the game is a RPG or a twin stick shooter. The core gameplay is the same as any other zombie killing download game; left stick move, right stick shoot. However, AZMD has a unique selling point with its RPG elements that add depth. Over time you gain experience to improve your characters and upgrade their weaponry. There is a story and relationship between the various allies, meaning there is more reason to complete the game than simply 50 arcade levels.

Runners both see and hear fairly well, so stealth is important if there are many of them in an enclosed area. Swift and aggressive, Runners swarm if given the chance. Once that happens, it's difficult to escape. Fortunately, killing Runners is fairly easy. They can be killed with Joel's bare hands, Ellie's knife, a melee weapon, any gun, or a simple stealth kill. If there are too many near, sprint away to a safer location to pick off a few separately.

Stalkers are not difficult to kill, but they definitely have a creep-factor that the others do not. They behave very differently from Runners. Rather than moving towards their target the moment they see them, Stalkers stay low and hidden to spy on their prey. They crawl on all fours and move quickly, preferring to stay behind large objects or around corners.

Just because a player does not see a Stalker, does not mean that the Stalkers do not see them. Patient and intelligent hunters, they wait to burst from their hiding spot and attack. Once engaged, a Stalker is not much more difficult to kill than a Runner, but they tend to live in packs. Players should use listening mode if they need to in order to "see" where Stalkers are, or shoot them from a distance when they peek from behind objects.

The middle stage of infection, Clickers are grotesque and challenging to kill. The fungus has taken over their brain and grown on their faces, rendering them completely blind. They move quickly and have an impressive sense of hearing that makes up for their lack of sight.

Walk slowly and quietly to avoid Clickers. Sneak up on them with stealth to kill them. Do not confront them directly like a Runner or a Stalker. The fastest way to kill Clickers is with fire. A Molotov cocktail is perfect for this and is especially helpful when taking on a group. Any Clickers in the area will run towards the sound and into the fire. If the fire does not kill the Clicker, a few shots to the head should finish the job.

Rat Kings spew acidic gas at a much faster rate than their Shambler cousins. The most difficult aspect of fighting the Rat King is that as it takes damage, the fungus breaks, and individual Infected can break off and rush to attack. The mutated Runner or Clicker may have the traits of other types of Infected, such as the ability to throw spores. The Rat King is susceptible to fire but requires skill and patience to defeat. 041b061a72
